Cannes Ad Lab Table
DESIGN + Creative Direction
We worked with the Spotify ad sales team to build an experience that gave potential brand partners the opportunity to make their own insight-driven streaming audio ads.
We designed and fabricated a table that housed six experience stations, drawing inspiration from vintage channel mixers for a physical interface that controlled the software. The Table debuted at the spotify lounge at Cannes in 2017.
Google
Doodle Wall
Design Direction
We looked to emerging trends in immersive arts and technology to inform over 50 concepts that were illustrated and presented over a two-week sprint. We focused upon an interaction that would give shoppers the chance to record their own Google Doodle using magical custom hardware.
Over three months, a small team designed and iterated upon the hardware, tested and refined the experience, and installed a full-function prototype at Google’s Mountain view campus. later, we coordinated the production of more than 50 Doodle Cans, and the install of the experience in Google’s first Brick-and-mortar retail spaces in the United Kingdom.
Collaborators: Lockey McGrath (client), Patrick Miller, Greg Baltus, Graham Hill, Kevyn McPhail.
The team conducted an extensive prototyping effort to define the active IR CONFIGURATIONS that would allow the doodle can to be tracked in 3 dimensions, including yaw, pitch, and roll. This finite tracking would enable a COMPLETELY seamless painting experience.
Knowing we wouldn’t have long to make an impression on shoppers in a retail environment, both digital and physical components of the experience needed to communicate their purpose and capability to a range of users with minimal instruction. further prototyping tested interactive affordances for the application of digital paint and the selection of color, as well as form, proportion, and materials that would tangibly embody google’s core brand.

Genius Board
Ux Design & IllustratioN
To promote the National Geographic Einstein biopic “Genius,” Deeplocal built a robotic chalkboard that illustrated Audiences’ selfies in Einstein’s own handwriting & equations, and returned their artwork over Twitter.
The Genius Board drew and delivered over 300 chalk portraits at sxsw, while thousands more digitally-rendered selfies celebrated the show’s premiere– winning the brand a Clio Entertainment Gold in Television/Streaming: Events/Experiential

Block Party
Design & Creative Direction
with an Android Experiment called Block Party for inspiration, we set out to build something huge and beautiful for Google I/O that could be experienced with an Android phone. A native application controlled two independent robotic systems– the first to position a 5-foot cube, and the second to select– and toss– a chosen color of paint by capturing Accelerometer and gyro data.
After Studying the site, building models, throwing paint, and mapping the interactions down to the inch, We installed and managed Block Party for three days, delighting conference attendees and creating unique, splattered paint art.
